Welcome to Founder’s Brown Bag

Are you a founder? Have you decided – are you bootstrapping or raising capital? How do you know which is the better path for you? How do you find a technical co-founder? Where are the best co-working places in the Twin Cities? Do you need O&E insurance? Should you spin up an LLC, S-Corp, C-Corp, or B-Corp? Should you enter the MN Cup? When does it make sense to go ahead and build the product? Is there such a thing as work-life balance as an entrepreneur?

Welcome to Founder’s Brown Bag. We’ve faced all of these questions and more. No, we’re not selling anything, rather we’re a support network and community for founders who have taken the leap to make that startup vision a reality.

We started when a small group of founders kept bumping into each other at the MN Cup, at Beta.MN, at Minnedemo, and the other fantastic events throughout the Twin Cities. We discovered we had different strengths and that together we could answer quite a few of the questions we had – in a way that was without judgement, was definitely biased but definitely allowed us to save time and money.

We are a group by founders, for founders. Dedicated to helping each other. We currently do this through a variety of efforts:

  1. Founders Only Round Tables – where on a monthly basis we tackle our biggest challenges.
  2. Panel Discussions – we’ve done a few of these on whether or not to enter the MN Cup and they’ve been a success. But there’s so much more to talk about. Watch for more of these. If you want to participate please do send me a note.
  3. Our Blog – this is our first blog entry but we plan on adding to it – with contributions from entrepreneurial leaders on topics near and dear to founders’ hearts. If you’d like to be a guest blogger please do reach out to me (darrin at foundersbrownbag dot com).
  4. This Website – comes about 2 years after we began assembling and would not have come together without the efforts of Melissa Buening. If you like what you see here connect with her on LinkedIn – we cannot thank her enough for her support.

The founder’s journey is a marathon not a sprint. It can be isolating. Sure, you talk to your friends, family, and significant other about it, but let’s face it – they’re not sure if you’re crazy, unemployed, brilliant, or all of the above. So if you’re not yet connecting with other founders or if you’d like an authentic and valuable way to connect that pays immediate dividends – we are your people, join us. The best way to do so is through an existing member founder or you may contact me through my email or LinkedIn below.

All the best,
